LIMS
Laboratory information management system. Manages samples, tests, results and the lab's chain of custody.
A LIMS tracks a sample from receipt through testing to result approval, holding specifications, stability studies and certificates of analysis along the way. In most QC labs it is the system of record for the data on which batches are released.
That position makes LIMS validation and audit trail review disproportionately important: result changes, reprocessing and manual integrations in chromatography data flowing into a LIMS are the classic hunting grounds of data integrity inspections.
